[With highest expression in kidney, heart, placenta, and lung by human TAZ Gene, 400-aa 45-kDa Transcriptional Coactivator with PDZ-Binding Motif contains a putative N-terminal 14-3-3 protein-binding motif, a central WW domain, and a C-terminal PDZ-binding motif and 2-stranded coiled-coil. The PDZ-binding domain localizes TAZ to discrete nuclear foci and is required for TAZ-stimulated gene transcription; it also mediates TAZ interaction with SLC9A3R2. Interaction with 14-3-3 appears to require TAZ phosphorylation on a specific serine residue; phosphorylation reduces TAZ transcriptional coactivation by inducing nuclear export through interaction with 14-3-3. TAZ shares 91% identity with mouse Taz and 45% identity with YAP. (NCI) ( NCI )]
