[Encoded by E2F growth-regulated human MCM5 Gene (MCM Family), 734-aa 82-kDa nuclear DNA Replication Licensing Factor MCM5 is a chromatin-binding protein that binds to origin recognition complexes, is required for replication initiation, is structurally similar to replication initiation protein CDC46 (S. cerevisiae), and is related to ATP-dependent helicases. Upregulated in the G0 to G1/S transition, MCM5 may participate in cell cycle regulation. A stable dimeric complex of MCM5/MCM3 associates with replication-specific DNA polymerase alpha-primase complex. MCM3 is acetylated by MCM3AP. MCM proteins also associate with RNA Pol II holoenzyme as components of the transcriptional apparatus. MCM5 interacts directly with the TAD of STAT1, enhancing transcription activation.
