[Encoded by human CXCR4 Gene (GPCR1 Family), widely expressed 39.7-kD SDF1/PBSF Receptor CXCR4 is a sulfated 352-amino acid integral membrane leukocyte-activating receptor for CXC chemokine SDF1/PBSF that signals intracellular calcium flux and contains common GPCR features; a 7-transmembrane region and putative glycosylation and phosphorylation sites. Responsible for B-cell lymphopoiesis, myelopoiesis, cardiogenesis, and GI tract vascularization, CXCR4 may be involved in CNS development and can mediate leukocyte and hematopoietic cell migration. It is a primary receptor for some HIV-2 viruses and a CD4 co-receptor for some HIV-1 viruses by promoting env-mediated fusion. (from LocusLink, Swiss-Prot, OMIM, and NCI) ( NCI )]
