[Encoded by human HMMR Gene and expressed in normal breast tissue, the 724-amino acid 84 kD Hyaluronan-Mediated Motility Receptor is similar to murine Hmmr. A subunit of the HARC complex, the hyaluronan receptor is required for cell motility and may regulate ERK activity. Phosphorylation of several proteins, including pp125-FAK, occurs when Hyaluronan binds HMMR; FAK phosphorylation is necessary for disassembly of focal contacts and motility. HMMR is up regulated in response to wound healing. (from Swiss-Prot, OMIM, and NCI) ( NCI )]
