[An immunoconjugate of the humanized monoclonal antibody hP67.6 chemically linked to a bacterial toxin, N-acetyl-gamma calicheamicin, by 4-acetylphenylacetic acid, with antileukemic property. The monoclonal antibody portion specifically binds to CD33 antigen, a cell surface antigen expressed on normal non-pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells as well as over-expressed on myelogenous leukemia cells. Upon internalization, calicheamicin, an enediyne class antibiotics, is released from the conjugate by hydrolysis, and binds in a sequence specific manner to the minor groove of DNA. Thereby leads to breakage of double-stranded DNA and consequently resulting in cell death. ( NCI )]
